Historical Background

The Hanoi University of Science, a member of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The important steps leading to the establishment of the university are as follows:

1904: Indochina University
1951: School of Basic Science
1956: University of Hanoi (UoH)
1993: Hanoi University of Science

The establishment of the Hanoi University of Science ensured the continuation, inheritance and development of more than 40 years' tradition of the UoH, where many Vietnamese talented and outstanding scientists had been trained here.

Presently, at the University there are 10 faculties and departments, a number of research institutes and R & D centres, over 100 laboratories, of which many laboratories have reached international standard. The University staff includes 700 members, among them 457 are teachers, 36 Professors, 112 Associate Professors, 38 Dr. Sc., 241 Ph.D and 100 M.Sc.

Student body of the University is nearly 10,000 of which more than 8,000 are undergraduate students, 500 postgraduate students (M.Sc and Ph.D), and 1,200 gifted high school students
